STT 261 is a binary system in the constellation Canes Venatici, located approximately 236 light-years from Earth. The primary component is a yellow-white main sequence star of spectral type F6V. The companion is likely also a star of spectral type F. The components orbit around their mutual center of mass with a period of 772 years.
103mm - STT 261 is an accessible object even for small telescopes. With a 103mm telescope, the components were nicely resolved at moderate magnification, but the best view of this binary star was at 159x. I observed the primary component as white with a very subtle yellowish tint, and the companion appeared also white, but with a hint of bluish tint.
