HJ 1018 is an inconspicuous physical pair located 103 light-years from the Sun. Both of its components are expected to be stars of spectral class G5 and are estimated to orbit each other in about 154 years.
103mm: Although this pair is not among the most sought-after objects, it is certainly an interesting target for owners of medium and possibly smaller telescopes. The separation of 1.6" and the relatively low, albeit very similar brightness of both components can make resolution challenging. I was able to separate the components at a magnification of 160x, but it was clear only at 200x. At this magnification, two sharply defined small disks were distinctly separated by a black gap. Both components appeared white to me.
