STF 1888 (Xi Bootis) is a binary system located 22 light-years away from the Sun. The primary component is a yellow main-sequence star of spectral class G8V, with a mass of 0.88 solar masses and a diameter of 0.82 solar diameters. The companion is an orange main-sequence star of spectral class K5V, with a mass of 0.66 solar masses and a diameter of 0.61 solar diameters. The estimated orbital period of the components is 153 years.
72mm -_ STF 1888 is situated approximately 7° east of the brightest star in the Shepherd constellation, Arcturus. To resolve this binary system, moderate magnification is sufficient; in my case, it was 86x. A truly splendid pair with well-defined colors is revealed. I observed them as yellow and a darker shade of orange._
