Albert Marth discovered NGC 7406 = m 503 on 25 Aug 1864 and noted "F, S, lE." His position is 1' north of PGC 69947.
400/500mm - 17.5" (9/15/90): faint, small, oval 2:1 WSW-ENE, even surface brightness. A mag 13.5 star is off the WSW end 1.8' from center.
