Édouard Stephan discovered NGC 6349 = St X-32, along with NGC 6351, on 15 Jul 1879. His position is just off the southeast side.

400/500mm - 17.5" (8/1/89): faint, very small, round, weak concentration. Forms a close pair with NGC 6351 0.9' E and CGCG 198-034 lies 7' SW. Located 16' ESE of mag 7.6 SAO 65925.
