Édouard Stephan discovered NGC 6097 = St XI-42 on 7 Jun 1880. His micrometric position using the 31-inch silvered glass reflector at Marseille Observatory is very accurate.

400/500mm - 17.5" (6/27/87): faint, very small, round, small brighter core. Located 13.6' ESE of mag 7.5 SAO 65158 in Zwicky Cluster 1615.8+3505.
