John Herschel discovered NGC 3082 = h3210 on 30 Mar 1835 and recorded "vF, S, R, close to a double star. Requires verifying." His position and description matches ESO 435-018.

400/500mm - 17.5" (3/16/96): fairly faint, small, elongated 2:1 SSW-NNE, 0.8'x0.4'. A pleasing pair of mag 13 stars (oriented N-S) is just off the NE end. A thin, faint, edge-on galaxy (ESO 435-019), lies 7' NNE (see notes).
