John Herschel discovered NGC 2466 = h3104 on 20 Feb 1835 and reported "vF; R; lbM; 25"." His position is accurate.

600/800mm - 24" (4/4/08 - Magellan Observatory, Australia): at 260x appears moderately bright, fairly small, irregularly round, 0.9'x0.8'. Broad, weak concentration to a very small, brighter core. The outer halo appeared to change orientation or extent using averted vision (this is a face-on spiral). Located 1.2° NNE of mag 3.9 Zeta Volantis.
