?douard Stephan discovered NGC 1063 = St XII-23 on 16 Nov 1881 with the 31" reflector at Marseille Observatory. His position is accurate.

400/500mm - 17.5" (11/28/97): faint, fairly small, elongated 3:2 ~E-W, 0.8'x0.5', low even surface brightness. Preceded by a wide pair of mag 11/13 stars ~4' W.
