Stephane Javelle discovered IC 563 = J. 2-647, along with IC 564, on 12 Mar 1893. His position is accurate.

600/800mm - 24" (2/24/20): at 200x; between faint and fairly faint, fairly small, oval 3:2 or 5:3, , 30"x20", low even surface brightness. Forms a close pair (Arp 303) with brighter IC 564 1.6' N. A 4' chain of four mag 11 and fainter stars extends towards the SW. In a trio (WBL 239) with IC 561 8' NW.
