A bright supernova, which appeared on February 23, 1987 in the Large Magellanic Cloud near the Tarantula Nebula and reached its maximum brightness of 2.8 magnitude. After 383 years since Kepler's supernova, the inhabitants of the southern hemisphere could admire another supernova visible to the naked eye. It shone in the sky for 10 months, but it is now very faint. It is likely that a pulsar remained after it, but it has not been found yet.
