Magic 8

< A cluster of around twenty stars within the dense Milky Way, situated between Sceptrum (Stock 2) and NGC 659 with NGC 663, takes the form of a large S or a slightly incomplete numeral 8, spanning about one degree. Brighter stars around the seventh magnitude are accompanied by numerous fainter ones around the ninth magnitude. It also includes the indistinct open cluster NGC 743.

VIC: This asterism was discovered on February 7, 2011, by Maggie using her Nikon 10x50 during our joint observation in Jizera Mountains. The 400mm Dobsonian telescope was idle due to poor seeing, and observation was primarily done with binoculars. I see the letter Š with a missing hook (lying beneath it). However, I chose a numerical name to complement the series (we already have 3, 5, 7, and 37, and perhaps more will be found over time). The epithet "magical" is added to honor its discoverer.
