The open star cluster NGC 457 makes for a delightful target for both small and larger telescopes. Two bright stars, φ1 and φ2, with magnitudes 5 and 7, respectively, form the eyes, and in the rest of the cluster, you can see the body, two legs, and outstretched arms. It's also known as the Owl Cluster or E.T.
VIC: A beautiful play of nature, often shown to telescope novices, prompting the question of what they see there. The shape is discernible even in a medium-sized telescope, while in a large binocular telescope, it splendidly demonstrates why it's so popular. It can handle higher magnifications.
