Albert Marth discovered NGC 7835 = m 597 on 29 Nov 1864 and noted "eF, S, R." His position is accurate. The same night he found NGC's 7834, 7837, 7838, 3 and 4.

400/500mm - 17.5" (8/2/86): very faint, very small, slightly elongated, diffuse. Forms an isosceles triangle with a mag 12 star 3.4' W and a mag 13 star 4.5' NNW. Located 4.0' NE of NGC 7834 in the NGC 3 group. The NGC 7837/38 pair lies 5' SSE.
