John Herschel discovered NGC 7749 = h4004 on 27 Sep 1834 and recorded "F; S; R; glbM; has a * 12m 1' dist following."
400/500mm - 17.5" (12/16/95): faint, fairly small, irregularly round, 1.0' diameter, only a broad weak concentration. A mag 12.5 star is 1.3' following.
