Édouard Stephan discovered NGC 7664 = St VIII-29 = T I-51 on 17 Oct 1876. His micrometric position is very accurate. Wilhelm Tempel independently discovered this galaxy in 1876, so the discovery priority is uncertain.
400/500mm - 17.5" (9/23/89): moderately bright, moderately large, oval E-W, brighter core. A mag 14 star is just off the south edge 1.0' from center and a mag 15 star is just off NE edge 38" from center. Located midway between mag 6.8 SAO 91256 15' SW and 69 Pegasi (V = 5.9) 15' NE.
