Édouard Stephan discovered NGC 7512 = St IX-34 on 28 Sep 1878. His position is an exact match with UGC 12414. Lewis Swift found this galaxy again on 10 Oct 1884, assumed it was new and reported it in list II-99 as "B; pL; R; bM. Easy in presence of a half moon." His position is 12 seconds of RA too small.
400/500mm - 17.5" (8/13/88): fairly faint, fairly small, almost round, small bright core.
