John Herschel discovered NGC 7203 = h3921, along with NGC 7201 and 7204, on 27 Sep 1834 and recorded "pF; R; gbM." He made a total of 3 observations.

400/500mm - 17.5" (7/22/87): fairly faint, fairly small, round, bright core. Slightly brighter than NGC 7201 6.5' SSW. Second of three on line with NGC 7204 7.0' NNE.

600/800mm - 24" (8/16/12): moderately bright, fairly small to moderately large, elongated 2:1 WSW-ENE, bright roundish core, 40"x20".
