Albert Marth discovered NGC 6955 = m 422, along with NGC 6957, on 28 Jun 1863 and noted "eF, pL, R." His position is fairly accurate.
400/500mm - 17.5" (8/1/87): extremely faint, fairly small, very diffuse, low surface brightness, requires averted vision. Pair with NGC 6957 7.4' E. Located 37' S of NGC 6954.
