Albert Marth discovered NGC 6587 = m 371 on 31 Jul 1864 and noted "F, vS, R, stell." His position is accurate to within 30".
400/500mm - 17.5" (7/1/89): fairly faint, small, almost round, very bright core, stellar nucleus. A mag 12 star is 1.4' NNW. Located in a rich field.
