Édouard Stephan discovered NGC 6323 = St VII-12 on 12 Jul 1876.
400/500mm - 17.5" (8/1/89): very faint, small, very elongated 3:1 NNW-SSE, weak concentration. First of five in a group with NGC 6329 12' ESE and NGC 6327 11' SE.
