Lewis Swift discovered NGC 6157 = Sw. IV-34 on 28 Jun 1886 and recorded "eeF; pS; R; v diff." His position is fairly accurate.

400/500mm - 17.5" (6/20/87): very faint, very small, almost round, brighter core. A mag 15 star is off the SW edge just 20" from the center. Located 13' ENE of mag 7.0 SAO 29930.
