Édouard Stephan discovered NGC 573 = St XII-15 on 21 Oct 1881 with the 31" reflector at the Marseille Observatory and recorded "vF, vS, R, gradually brighter to the center". His position is accurate.
400/500mm - 17.5" (11/27/92): fairly faint, small, fairly strong smooth surface brightness, only a gradual concentration but no core or nucleus. A mag 13.5 star is 30" SW.
