Édouard Stephan discovered NGC 5705 = St XIII-80 on 17 May 1884 in the NGC 5713 group. His position is accurate.

400/500mm - 17.5" (6/8/91): extremely faint, fairly large, extremely low surface brightness, weak concentration. Appears as an ill-defined haze elongated WSW-ENE with no definite edge. NGC 5713 lies 27' NNW.
