Albert Marth discovered NGC 569 = m 49 on 1 Oct 1864 with Lassell's 48" on Malta. He noted "eF, vS, R" and measured a fairly accurate position.

400/500mm - 17.5" (1/1/92): very faint, fairly small, elongated 2:1 NNW-SSE, 1.0'x0.5', low surface brightness with weak concentration.

600/800mm - 24" (10/1/16): fairly faint, but moderately large, elongated 2:1 NNW-SSE, ~40"x20", fairly low surface brightness, weak concentration. Forms a disrupted interacting pair with UGC 1065 1.1' NE. The companion was only occasionally visible as an extremely faint hazy spot (probably the core).
