Albert Marth discovered NGC 5245 = m 266, along with NGC 5246, on 30 Apr 1864 and noted "vF, vS." His position is 2.4' south of CGCG 045-048 = PGC 48110. CGCG fails to label this galaxy as NGC 5245.
400/500mm - 17.5" (4/28/90): very faint, very small, irregularly round, almost even surface brightness. Located almost at the midpoint between two mag 13.5 stars 2.5' NNW and 3.1' SSE. NGC 5246 lies 12.5' N.
