John Herschel discovered NGC 5182 = h3513 on 13 May 1834 and recorded "vF; pL; lE; a vL * [HD 117558] follows 12' +/- dist."
400/500mm - 17.5" (6/2/00): faint, fairly small, elongated 3:2 SSW-NNE, 1.0'x0.7'. The halo fades into the background and gradually brightens to a very small brighter core. Located 11' WSW of mag 6.5 SAO 181723.
