John Herschel discovered NGC 5027 = h1561 on 17 Apr 1830 and recorded "eF; R; vgbM." His position (measured on two nights) is accurate.
400/500mm - 18" (5/28/06): very faint, very small, round, 20" diameter. A mag 14 star is off the SE side 1.0' from the center. Located 1.2° NW of mag 4.8 Sigma (60) Virginis.
