John Herschel discovered NGC 4955 = h3464 on 30 Mar 1835 and logged "F; R; gbM; 35"." His position is an exact match with ESO 443-062.

400/500mm - 17.5" (4/13/96): faint, fairly small, irregularly round, 1.0' diameter, broad concentration with no well defined core. A mag 12 star is 1.5' SW of center. Forms a pair with ESO 443-066 2.1' NE (not seen).
