John Herschel discovered NGC 4734 = h1454 on 7 Apr 1828 and noted "vF; vS; R." His position is good.
400/500mm - 18" (4/29/06): fairly faint, fairly small, round, 0.5' diameter, weak concentration. Appears brighter on the north edge or the core is asymmetrical on the north side. Located 33' NE of NGC 4713.
