William Herschel discovered NGC 4452 = H I-23 on 15 Mar 1784 (sweep 174) and recorded a "B, S, much E nebula, or bright dash." CH's reduced position is 10 sec of RA east of UGC 7601.
400/500mm - 17.5" (4/18/87): moderately bright, fairly small, thin pretty edge-on SW-NE, brighter core. Located 8' SE of mag 7.7 SAO 100114. IC 3381, situated 7.1' WNW, appeared faint, small, slightly elongated, weak concentration. The IC is located 2.2' S of a mag 7.7 SAO 10014 that detracts from viewing.
