William Herschel discovered NGC 4271 = H II-804 on 17 Apr 1789 (sweep 923) and recorded "pB, pL, iF." His position matches UGC 7375.
400/500mm - 17.5" (5/13/88): fairly faint, small, slightly elongated, sharp bright core, stellar nucleus. A mag 14.5 star is off the west edge 1.1' from center.
