Carl Frederick Pechüle discovered NGC 4239 in 1884 with an 11-inch refractor at the Copenhagen Observatory. His position is 1.6' south of UGC 7316.
400/500mm - 17.5" (5/23/98): fairly faint, fairly small, elongated 3:2 NW-SE, 0.9'x0.6', weak concentration. Easy to locate as situated between two mag 10.5 stars 2.9' WSW and 2.1' NE.
