William Herschel discovered NGC 3862 = H III-385 on 27 Apr 1785 (sweep 403) and noted "vF, vS, r." His position is within 1.5' of UGC 6723.
300/350mm - 13.1" (2/25/84): faint, small, round, bright core, IC 2955 0.9' NNW.
400/500mm - 17.5" (3/12/88): fairly faint, small, round, bright core, stellar nucleus. Forms a close trio with IC 2955 0.9' NNW and CGCG 97-118 2.9' W. This galaxy is in the core of AGC 1367 and is the brightest in the field with NGC 3857, NGC 3859, NGC 3868.
