William Herschel discovered NGC 3782 = H II-732 = h930 on 5 Feb 1788 (sweep 808) and recorded "F, S. Almost between 2 stars, the cheveulure touches them both; the are sp the nebula." JH reported "a * 15m with a nebulous tail nf which touches another star."

400/500mm - 17.5" (4/6/91): fairly faint, fairly small, elongated 2:1 SSW-NNE, 1.0'x0.5', almost even surface brightness. A mag 12 star is at the SSW tip 0.6' from center and a mag 15 star is off the NNE tip 1.3' from center. Member of the NGC 3992 (M109) group = LGG 258, though another paper list it a member of the NGC 3769 group.
