John Herschel discovered NGC 3365 = h747 on 13 Apr 1828 (sweep 144) and recorded, "eF; L; 2' long, 20" broad; vgvlbM; a ray nebula." His position is 1.4' south of the edge-on UGC 5878. The NGC has a typo in the RA hour (19).
400/500mm - 17.5" (4/22/95): very faint, fairly large, edge-on 6:1 NNW-SSE, 4.0'x0.6'. Appears as a low surface brightness streak, very weak concentration with a small slightly brighter core. Surprisingly faint for the listed magnitude.
