John Herschel discovered NGC 3236 = h707 on 25 Mar 1832 (sweep 406) and recorded "eF; S; psbM; 8"; 2 st 11 and 12m follow."
400/500mm - 17.5" (4/9/94): faint, very small, round, weak concentration. A mag 13 star is 1.5' ESE and a mag 12 star 2.8' SE. Located 4.0' NE of a mag 10.5 star.
