John Herschel discovered NGC 3037 = h3195 on 26 Mar 1835 and recorded "F; R; lbM; 30"." His position is an exact match with ESO 499-010 = PGC 28381.
400/500mm - 17.5" (4/1/00): fairly faint, roundish, 1.0' diameter, very little concentration. A 30" pair of mag 14 stars close SE (~1.5') is collinear with the center of the galaxy. Located 5.4' SSW of mag 9.7 SAO 178100.
