John Herschel discovered NGC 2845 = h3159 on 1 Feb 1835 and recorded "vF, S, R, attached to a star 12th mag, south following." His position and description matches ESO 314-010 = PGC 26306.
400/500mm - 18" (12/30/08): faint, small, slightly elongated WSW-ENE, 0.4'x0.25', even surface brightness. The galaxy is nestled right against a mag 13 star that is attached on the east side, 20" from the center.
