William Herschel discovered NGC 2710 = H III-841 on 18 Mar 1790 (sweep 949) and called it "vF, S." His position (CH's reduction) is 1' south of UGC 4705.
400/500mm - 17.5" (3/20/93): very faint, fairly small, elongated 3:2 NW-SE. A mag 14 star is at the NE edge 1.0' from center. A bright wide pair mag 10.5/11 at 37" separation lies 4' SW.
