Heinrich d'Arrest discovered NGC 2614 on 1 Dec 1863 while recording NGC 2629. His single position matches UGC 4523.

400/500mm - 17.5" (2/1/92): very faint, fairly large, 2.5' diameter, round, very low surface brightness, very weak concentration but no core. Better view at 140x than 220x due to low surface brightness. A mag 14.5 star is at the west edge. First in a group of four including NGC 2629 20' E.
