John Herschel discovered NGC 159 = h2332 on 28 Oct 1834 and logged "vF, S, R, 15", precedes 3 stars." On a second sweep he noted "vF, R, glbM, 20 arcseconds". His position is accurate.

600/800mm - 30" (10/13/15 - OzSky): at 303x; fairly faint to moderately bright, elongated nearly 3:1 E-W, 1.0'x0.3', contains a small bright, round core and a stellar nucleus. Located 29' SSE of mag 7.3 HD 3075 = HJ 3376 (7.5/10 pair at 7").
