John Herschel discovered NGC 1329 = h2536 on 11 Dec 1835 and commented "F, R, glbM, 30 arcsec.". His position matches ESO 548-015 = PGC 12826.
400/500mm - 17.5" (12/30/99): faint, small, slightly elongated SW-NE, 0.7'x0.5'. Contains a small bright core, ~10" in size and a faint stellar nucleus with direct vision. A mag 11.5 star lies 4.0' S. Located 9' NE of mag 9 SAO 148955. A faint edge-on galaxy (ESO 548-014) is attached to the mag 11.5 star but was not noticed.
