?douard Stephan discovered NGC 1171 = St X-15 on 4 Dec 1880 with the 31" reflector at Marseille Observatory and recorded "vF, pL, iF". His position matches UGC 2510 = PGC 11552. Lewis Swift independently found this nebula on 12 Sep 1885 and his position in list II-26 is 0.2 tmin too far east.

400/500mm - 17.5" (10/24/87): fairly faint, fairly small, elongated 2:1 NW-SE, broadly concentrated.
