Stephane Javelle discovered IC 5285 = J. 3-1434 on 16 Oct 1903 and measured an accurate micrometric position.
300/350mm - 13.1" (9/22/84): faint, very small, almost round, slightly elongated ~E-W, possible faint stellar nucleus. A very faint mag 14.5 star is at the west edge 23" from center. Forms a pair with NGC 7489 6' ENE. This object is an unusual ring galaxy.
