DeLisle Stewart discovered IC 4819 = DS 556 on a plate taken at Harvard's Arequipa station on 16 Sep 1901. He reported "vF, S, eE at 130°."
600/800mm - 30" (10/12/15 - OzSky): at 394x; fairly faint, extremely thin edge-on streak, at least 8:1 NW-SE, ~1.8'x0.2', fairly uniform width, except tapers slightly at tips. A 15th magnitude star is superimposed near the southeast tip and a mag 16 star is at the north edge of the central region. Located 15' SW of mag 7.8 HD 177569 and 42' NW of the spectacular globular NGC 6752.
