DeLisle Stewart discovered IC 4815 = DS 553 on a plate taken at Harvard's Arequipa station on 13 Aug 1901. He reported "cF, vS, R, bM."

600/800mm - 30" (10/12/15 - OzSky): at 394x; moderately bright, fairly small, round, 0.6' diameter, bright core. Two mag 14 stars 0.8' and 1.2' NW are collinear with the galaxy.
