DeLisle Stewart discovered IC 4618 = D.S. 433 on a plate taken on 23 Jul 1900 at Harvard's Arequipa Station. He noted "!! eF, eS, 2-branch spiral."

600/800mm - 24" (4/11/08 - Magellan Observatory, Australia): at 260x this highly peculiar appeared moderately bright, round, 1.1' halo, irregular surface brightness but with no distinct core. There was hint of mottling or knotty structure. On images this galaxy has an unusual twisted bar with distorted extensions.
