Guillaume Bigourdan discovered IC 4237 = Big. 317 on 9 May 1896.
400/500mm - 17.5" (5/19/01): faint but moderately large glow, elongated 4:3 NW-SE, no central concentration. Located 11' due west of brighter NGC 5134 and 15' SE of a mag 6.5 star.
