Stephane Javelle discovered IC 382 = J. 2-587 on 6 Feb 1893. His position is accurate. RNGC and NGC 2000.0 incorrectly equates IC 382 with NGC 1632. See NGC 1632.

400/500mm - 17.5" (1/23/93): fairly faint, moderately large, round, 1.5' diameter, gradually increases to small bright core. A 10' string of stars extends towards the NW. Appears brighter and larger than NGC 1632 30' ENE! Misidentified in the RNGC as NGC 1632.
